What States are in the Nurse License Compact (eNLC)? 2022

While supplemental staffing through agency nurses has been with us since the 1970’s, the onset of Covid-19 highlighted a known problem in the most unprecedented way. The urgency of “pocket” shortages, led many states outside of the eNLC to suspend state licensure requirements if licensed in another state. While one of the more sensible, and frankly necessary moves during the pandemic, as Covid hospitalizations trend down the question remains…what now? Many have questioned the necessity of obtaining licensure in a state for temporary work, when currently licensed in another state. The eNLC offers a measure of hope. Here are 33 states that are currently part of the compact:

Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virgina, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

AND STAY TUNED!!! Vermont and New York are currently considering enacting and implementing the nurse license compact.
